The top hook latch is needed when you are sailing, but in port it’s a nuisance and allowed the door to warp. A brass and SS ball plunger looked like the best solution for this narrow door. It has  worked out well.

I modified a Stanley Ball Plunger by cutting one side off the strike and both sides off of the plunger mounting plate.
